I am looking to improve the performance of my MY99. I understand that a Tek2 is a standard remap of the original ecu. Can this be used with little modification to the car? I am
currently running a Magnex rear box and K&N panel filter, would the tek2 be OK (safe) for this set up or should I replace the centre section (pos with a magnex catless with resonator) to get the full potential from the new ecu map? I do not want to mod the car more that this, though just the ecu and the rear box would be preferred.

Thanks for your comments

Does you motor have a cat in the downpipe?
If it does I personally would de-cat the downpipe as oppossed to the centre section.
But that's just my Opinion.
After that, I think you would not be too far short of a safe setup.

I would change the downpipe and leave the catted centre. However, you can run a Tek 2 on a completely standard car.

Thanks for the input, though that now leads me to ask some other questions.
If I run a Tek 2 on my car as it is, what performance enhancement will I get? I am looking for stealth mods and don’t want to have an excessive exhaust noise; current Magnet back box is just fine. I understand that replacing the centre section with a resonator catless item would be quieter than a straight through unit, is that right? How does replacing the downpipe change the volume and power compared to the mid section?

Thanks

Duke

Backbox has most effect on noise. If you want to keep it quiet and the most powerful use a 2.5 inch full decat system with resonated centre and a quiet back box.

Tek 2 will add about 10% to the baseline power with or without exhaust.

If it helps, I have just fitted a Tek 2 ecu. So far I have only de-catted the centre, so the downpipe cat is still there.

It has totally transformed the car, feels much quicker and smoother. I will be de-catting the downpipe as soon as I find the money though

Thanks for the info. Sound like the Tek2 is fine.
I presume if I remove either Cat then I will have to replace it for the MOT, or is the cat in the down pipe bigger so that I might get away with removing the centre Cat and be OK for MOT?

Removal of centre cat will cause no MOT issues (like the PPP'd cars are). Removal of the Downpipe cat and keeping the centre cat can pass the MOT at a scrape, as long as the cat is really hot when tested.
