Well as some of you may recall, I posted a thread a little while ago concerning the dreaded clutch judder. My dealer (Cheam Motors) reckoned they now had a cure for the problem, which bascially involved fitting a new fly wheel and clutch (using the stronger P1 clutch housing).
The work was carried out yesterday and my initial thoughts are very encouraging. The new clutch has totally transformed the car, improving the gear change (bascially allowing you to complete much faster gear changes) and making it much smoother. Obviously this is very early days, but there is no sign of the clutch judder
So far, so good. A word of thanks to Cheam Motors (cheers Andy) who did their usual excellent job.

Yes it was. I reported clutch judder at the 7500 mile service. It wasn't that bad at the time. Reported it again when it went in for the 15K service. Cheam also did a test drive and reported that the clutch felt 'horrible' - not just the judder, but the clutch feel was also very 'mushy'. Now it is much better.

......Thanks Sunil. Nearly overslept there.
You know, I had the strangest dream! I was in my standard car and Sunil, SORRY, Chaufer , was trying to keep up in his. Go figure! I admit I wasn't in the leed for long. But hey, it was fun while it lasted.
I will graciously admit defeat. Sunil's car is faster than mine. Well, when he's not driving it is.

Sith, you know you really are stupid and ignorant. We had been following you for ages up and down the A3 before you realised, taking us out of our planned journey route
In fact your also very sad if your idea of a great Sunday afternoon is to spend it driving up and down the A3 ALONE being ignorant to other motorists around you, dont worry, Dan Fisher says he'll lend you his blow up doll for company and Steve says he'll get it inflated for you using an airline as its a rather large blow up doll, just for you!

Sunil - (Ooohh, Bitch ) Don't know what to say to the first paragraph. Kinda stumped. The stupid and ignorant comment is what's got me. Not something I acustomed to being told. Muppet, yes.
Your right on one thing. I do like to be on my OWN. Always have done! So there (blows a raspberry)!
Dan - Looks like Sunil may be ordering some gear through you for me. Send us a catalogue. He seems to think I need help.
P. (Still in shock!)

Been reading this tread and mine goes in for a new clutch next week to fix the judder. When I asked if they are going to use the P1 housing they said it was just a like for like swap. Should they use the P1 housing or just replace it with the standard one?
Cheers

Just take this thread back onto a more serious note for Tim's benefit.
I think it depends on who you talk to. After speaking to my dealer and a few other people it would seem that one cause of the judder problems has been a lack of pressure in clutch housing (whether there wasn't enough pressure in the first place, or whether they've been leaking I don't know).
To maintain more pressure, they fitted the P1 clutch housing which is stronger. If you want to discuss this with someone who knows more about these things, speak to Andy Barker at Cheam Motors on 020 8394 2262.
Cheers

Watch out then sunil yours is next.
We have changed 3 clutches now, all have changed the feel of the clutch pedal and take up, transforming the clutch to feel more user friendly.
Any change in this feel from the 3 we have already replaced, i'm sure we will hear as soon as it happens, so to Chris and the other customers please keep me informed.
The dealer information from IM is to change the std clutch cover to the P1 cover as Chris has said already, any dealer will be advised of this if the question is raised with IM through the normal warranty procedure.
Anyone who has a warranty concern I shall do my best to answer any questions you may have.
I hope anyone going tracking tomorrow has a good day, unfortunately I have to work so shall read any posts with interest over the next few days.

Sunil - you tread on dangerous ground
Cheers Andy - better than I could have put it. For the record the clutch 'feel' is much better - it has made a vast improvement to the car and it has certainly speeded up the gear changes as the clutch now feels a lot more accurate (less mushy - to give it a technical description )

My car a MY00 suffered from clutch judder from new. it wasn't until i got a couple of customers cars with the same problems that i decided to look into it further. I replaced the clutch and it made no difference whatsoever. Worsr if anything. When i wrote to Subaru Ireland about the problem they agreed to take it in and line up the clutch using some sort of special machine. Never had clutch judder since.
