Do you mean the restrictor in the bleed pipe from the boost solenoid??

If so then I think it might be a wise more to put it back.

Hi,

Just thought why would the mapper take out the restrictor when he fitted the 3 port??

Restrictors seem to have a mixed bag of opinions. Those who think that electronic boost controllers rule the world will ditch restrictors; others think restrictots are a crucial part of the boost control system. Myself - I'm convinced about the latter, but haven't got a clue how to set the things up right
Doesn't help alot, but I think it might explain why the mapper removed the thing in the first place
BTW, if the car was set up to not be using the restrictor, it will probably act rather strangely with the restrictor back in again - in basic terms, the restrictor governs the 'coarse' boost control, the boost controller the fine stuff. So the boost controller might adapt, then again it might not..

The restrictor - is it IN the pipe, or an item in between 2 parts of the pipe?

I have been advised to reduce the hole size in my restrictor as mods seems to have caused overboost and misfire... and looking what I need to do!

Cheers

- Sonic, we should meet locally for a beer / chat! mail as per profile!!

Talk to the person who mapped it before messing around! Some map with restrictor, some without.

The restrictor is IN the pipe

I ran a Dawes and lost my original pipe work, so I orderded a new one from the dealers (as pictured above) only I forgot the restrictor (didnt know about them then) stuck it on my car, and the boost wouldnt go above 9 PSI, so I stuck the Dawes back on (17PSI) till I could get a restrictor

There are different size restrictors too depending on what car you have, also as part of the PPP package you get a diffeent size restrictor which when people buy 2nd hand PPP ECU's they dont usually change the restrictor too

Vulnax we are looking at having a local meet at Micklehead if you want to come along to that

With a 3 port the pipe shown is irrelevant. The 3 ports are connected to the compressor outlet, the actuator and the inlet pipe. Usually they are mapped without restrictors.

As Dowser says, speak to your mapper. It is likely that the maximum duty cycle used in the ECU is a little high for the present cold weather and/or something has changed mechanically on your car since mapping.

The maximum duty cycle controls the overboost peak that is reached before the ECU brings it to target. This in mild forms gives an initial kick and then it pulls back, in worse cases it can fluctuate a few times, and in bad cases will oscillate up and down from 10-20 PSI whilst you have your foot on the floor.

Fiddling with restrictors on a mapped car without understanding is frought with dangers.

Speak to your mapper first.
