I have a MY00 Sport and on my way home last week I came off the motorway and stopped at some lights. It way quite late and I floored it as there was nobody else about and the engine was reving but I did not seem to be moving off very fast. After stopping and driving off a bit slower I got a very nasty burnt clutch smell comming from the car

Anyway, the following few days the clutch semmed to slip quite a lot under pressure and I booked the car in for a new clutch.

I have since driven about another 500 miles on the clutch and it seems to be back to normal. It's not slipping and I really don't want to spend £400 on aclutch if it does not need one.

Are there any tests to see if the clutch needs doing? Any ideas would be greatfully appreciated.

I think there's a test you can do on the pedal. Something to do with the amount of travel before resistance is felt. Can't remember the exact tolerance value, but I think it was about 15mm...?
