Question

I've had "check engine" light up briefly a couple of times since I had a new short motor fitted. I had the dealer to check it this week and they said it was the throttle body sensor. They cleaned the connections, and said to let them know if it happened again.

Well, it has, and it seems to be accompanied by the engine idling too fast (1100rpm). I'll get it to the dealer next week, but in the meantime does anyone have any experience of this? Is a new sensor required, or is there actually anything that can go wrong with the throttle?

I'm also regularly getting the boost solenoid ticking away at idle, when it never used to do this. After switching off the engine, it carries on for a second or so.

Are these fact related? Other than this the car drives just fine.

Thanks,

Steve

I've also had exactly the same on my 97 turbo. Hasn't done it for some time now (about 1 month). If anyone knows how to stop this let us know please....

Thumbs up

Glad I'm not the only one. Mines a MY97. Are you getting the high revs and solenoid ticking too?

I've not booked it in yet, I'll let you know what happens when I do.

Cheers,

S

Just to let you know, I doused the throttle cable and pivots with WD40, and have not had the light come on again. Will wait and see...

Maybe the sensor was upset because the throttle calble was sticking a bit, causing the fast idle? I'm still getting the solenoid ticking on idle occaisionally, so I might still pop into the dealer next year.
