Tuning for Impreza Sport
#1
I have brought a new Impreza Sport Special, It is the first Subaru i have owned and wonder if anybody out there knows of any tuning that really works on this car. I am atleast considering an exhaust backbox because the standard looks silly and sounds like it is strangling the engine, any suggestions would be appriciated.

Hi Stu
I've got a sport and have found tuning bits for it to be non existant. They only seem to cater for all these people with turbo's and loads of wonga!!
Anyway the only things I've done are fit a Seebring back box,a King Dragon air filter and have changed the plugs to Bosch super 8, tried Splitfire but they didn't make any difference and were expensive.I also fitted new plug leads from Magnecor. These didn't increase performance but they did make the engine a lot smoother.
Cheers Andy.

You should try contacting Pete @ scoobysport (www.scoobysport.co.uk) or Mike @ Scoobymania (www.scoobymania.co.uk). Im sure both could advise you what will fit or will not. I'd be suprised if the scoobysport backbox and ITG filter wouldn't fit. Bob Rawle might be able to get a LINK ECU working on a Sport, afterall if he can't, little chance of anybody else managing it!

Alright Stuart
I bought a sport special month ago.
The WR Sport BB will not fit a turbo. It is a bit like the p1 bb
You would be better getting a scoobysport bb, they are roughly the same money.

Just to clarify, we have DIFFERENT silencers to fit P1, Turbo and Sport.
P1 has a 90mm round tailpipe with P1 logo. Whilst this is externally similar to the Performance Package silencer, it is different internally to suit the higher power output and engine speed.
The WRSport silencer for the Turbo has a 120x75mm oval tailpipe and is once again different internally to the PP silencer.
Part no is SACC2137
The WRSport silencer for the 99/00MY normally aspirated cars looks the same externally as the Turbo silencer but has a different mounting flange and different internals. Part no is SACC2138
All are in stock for your dealer to order.
Hope this helps

Stuart,
Welcome to the wondeful world of Impreza Sport ownership!!
I bought mine just over a year ago and in that time have fitted a Scoobysport backbox, ITG panel filter, 16" gold MY00 wheels and tyres, Eibach springs (lowers car by 30mm), Goodridge stainless steel brake hoses, EBC Kevlar pads and Pivot shift light. So there are a few things you can do to the Sport...
Why not come to the next Cambridge meeting (no date as yet) which is held at The Plough, Fen Ditton on the north side of Cambridge (near the A14).

On my first Impreza, a Sport (R136UKL, where are you?), I had one of Sport SS backboxes out of the first batch Pete did. And all I can say is enjoy setting off car alarms I also fitted a K&N panel filter replacement, with those two mods she did rev more free (stands to reason doesn't it) and was slightly quicker.
Do it, you know you want to.

Mike,
Thank you for your reply, Am I right in thinking the WRSport bb for the sport has the same 120 x 75 oval outlet? also do you know how much extra bhp it will give?
Cheers......Stu

The Scoobysport Sport back box is produced to the same standard as our turbo unit and looks the same as the turbo, from the back of the car.
90mm round tail pipe.
We have these in stock for next day delivery, details on our website

I have heard that scoobysport back box's are very loud how true is this, as this is not what i am after, also how do i get on with warranty on the car after fitting a non subaru part?
P.s. the Prodrive exhaust is cheaper too.
