Scott,

Have you got any error codes showing? Or any problem with the speedo?

A couple of weeks ago my kph/mph converter came off which resulted in two error codes (speed measurement and idle control).

With these error codes displaying, when I dipped the clutch when slowing down the revs would dip very low and then 'bounce back' to the normal 800(ish)rpm.

If you don't have any error codes showing, the idle control valve may just need a good clean. (on the manifold side of the ICV there was a small check valve which also needs cleaning).

I hope this may be of some help.

Simon

Question

On a number of occasions when slowing down and usually comming to a stop, the car stalls. When i slow down and dip the clutch the revs fall very low and on most occasions bounc back to around 7-800 revs but sometimes the engine stalls. Is the tickover set to low or do i have a minor problem. I thought when i put the standard sti pipe back on from the straight through catless beast the increased back-pressure would cure it but it didnt. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.

cheeers scott

Scott,

The ECU indicates an error by lighting the 'check engine' lamp on the dashboard. The full info on how to check the ECU error codes is shown on this website:

Im having the same problem on a wrx
I've cleaned the ISC valve and yet its still doing it....
Do you find it hard to restart the car after it stalls?
I think my ISC valve is now probably dead or dying...

A faulty crank position sensor can cause the car to stall and be awkward to start again after.

Dub,

Fault code 42 relates to the TPS(throttle position sensor mounted) on the side of the throttle housing not the ISC.It is a combined unit, idle swith and throttle position(potentiometer) approx £150.00 from memory maybe more.Very easy to change only held on with two screws and can be set up with a multimeter.

Regards

Steve

I havent tried the ecu test yet but i hope it is just the idle speed sensor that needs cleaning. The car isnt difficult to restart though Dub Yar Ex so it could be i different fault.

cheers scott

There is also a possibility that the Air Flow Meter has dead...do you have an aftermarket intake system??

I'm actually having the same erratic idle, and stall problem as you have right now. The dealer has cleaned the ISC, but that didn't do.
They have told me that there are four areas that might go wrong to have caused it:
1)ISC
2)AFM
3)a leak somewhere
4)bad Oxygen sensor

well, besides erratic idle, occasional stall, I also get BAD gas mileage...
I mean...my last 25 litter only give me 110km!!!!! I have not changed my style of driving at all.

as my car is at the dealer right now, and I'll get back to you when I get the problem solved.

well, just got a call from the dealer telling me that my AFM is bad, and there is currently a waiting list for it right now.

damn the hot film design....I wasn't even running an aftermarket intake system...
