I've just fitted a TSL Firestorm backbox (IM: or did I??)

Now, the car feels a lot, lot faster, although I think it's all in my head The reason I'm asking is that a Subaru engineer told me that "changing the backbox doesn't give any increased performance", so I told my insurance company it was a cosmetic mod only...

Now, I don't want to end up in loads of trouble if I have an accident, so could someone shed some light on if the TSL indeed does give increased performance...

Assuming the perceived power hike is real, is there any risk of the car running lean?

Car in qustion is an 03WRX, and I really don't want to lose the exhaust, as it has given the ***** back to the car

...just changing the backbox will not give very much extra in power gains. Decat it and you will really notice a difference.
I think a full decat will add about 30 bhp. A backbox alone about 4 or 5 bhp.

By the way, how do you like your Firestorm? Do you find it loud?

Oh no, that means I will have to tell the insurance company that I have a performance exhaust then Bollocks, I see my premium going through the roof now

But then, it's all kind of worth it, because the Firestorm sounds awesome... it's really loud, but then that's what I wanted from the car. It does give it a really nice rumble, especially below 2000rpm
If it was my daily driver, I think I would hate it after a while, but as it's only used occasionally and most of the time for fun it's not a big problem if it rumbles too much on the motorway (You can *definitely* hear it on the motorway)

Missus thinks it looks like a big saucepan, and I suppose she's right in a way, but the sound makes up for it

Backbox only IIRC should not affect your insurance premium.

When I declared mods to my Insurance co. 3 years ago, they upped my premium by an extra £200!! >:O

It was a Honda Integra SiR VTEC with Kakimoto Racing muffler and HKS filter. They claimed that it increased power by 20%!! WTF! I wish! Just as well that I didnt declare all the other mods.
B@stards.

Oh and it was T*sco who shafted me....

Norwich Union Direct hiked my premium up by £114 just for adding the TSL firestorm...

They want another £114 for adding the STI 4 spoiler as I only have the pre 99 low lip spoiler....dont think iam going to tell them about the spoiler...

try Liverpool Victoria - spoken to them today as my premium's due and they just seem to note things down on your file that things have been changed without drastically upping / changing the premium

PPP for me would be a no increase in premium upgrade, as it is an engine mod but "you're not putting a bigger one in"

only downside is that they only pay out market value on the 'showroom spec.' car so mods aren't included

Apple

PS Tescos tried to shaft me for about 180 quid extra for a Prodrive WR back box on a bugeye - I voted with my feet
