Can anyone help me identify the sensor fitted just after the first Cat on the standard Downpipe ?
What's it for and is it important?
I have just had a new downpipe fitted and have found the sensor cable tied out of the way ! There does seem to be a place to fit it on the new downpipe, just after the turbo, but it seems to be welded up !

If your car is an early one (which I suspect it is), it will be the Cat overheat sensor. The place which is sealed on your new D/P is where newer cars have the lambda sensor fitted, early model cars had the lambda sensor in the exhaust headers.
