Nearly stalling!
#1
Hi Folks'
My car is a 99 spec Type R, my problem is that when i pull up to a junction and keep the car ticking over the rev counter drops to about 200 rpm then immediately goes to 1000 rpm and then levels out at 700 rpm.
At times this is quite worrying, you think its going to stall, which lets admit is quite embarrasing when your trying to pose your head off!
Any help with my problem?
Paul

Is the car completely standard or are you running an alternative ecu and any other mods? This may well help someone diagnose your problem more effectively/easily

OK mines a UK spec thingy, but mine had similar problems. You come to a junction, or lights; dip the clutch and you had to "blip" the throttle or else the engine would die.
Basically turned out that my BOV / dump value which was fitted ages before had a slit rubber diaphram which caused a very unstable idle. I'd put up with it for a month or so before I mentioned it to the guy that looks after my car. Fixed in 10 mins with a new BOV.
Have you a none standard Dump Value ?
Cheers,
Mark.

This happened on two of the cars i have had and in the latter case turned out to be the idle speed control valve which needed cleaning out, i used jenolite to get rid of carbon deposits, I suspect it was the same on the first car but never got around to finding out.Same symtoms though.

It sound to me like a fuel system problem, but what the hell do I know?? .
Exact same symptoms on my Landcruiser a few weeks back, turned out that the fuel pump was knackered (it's a diesel though!). Same with my mates Primera eGT recently, and my dads Primera eGT a couple of years ago.

do you experience any problems at boost or mid/high revs ?
If not, then it points to either the air idle valve... or the AFM/MAF...
check the MAF/AFM.. make sure its not fooked/dirty..
then try and clean the idle valve.... there is a correct process for doing this, by holding the revs at a set value...and spraying cleaner in...etc....
mail me if u want...
