The transmission oil should be replaced every 30,000 miles and checked (and replaced if necessary) half way in between. Thus, if it needed doing, the garage should have done it when you had the car serviced.
As to which oil to use, if you have a UK specification manual gearbox/viscous centre diff car, you can use any 75w/90 gear oil in both 'box and rear diff. Mobil 1 SHC 75/90 is excellent, while Castrol Syntrax and Redline Shockproof Lightweight are also very well thought of.

Thanks GM.
The Subaru dealer only included Canbelt change,Oil and filters. They rang me first and said the tensioner needs replacing coz it was leaking hydraulic oil. Then they rang again saying rad is leaking too.Couldnt believe that.It had no leak wotsoever before. So,It was only canbelt, oil and filters they included in 45k service plus, other faults(??) to triple the bill basically!
Tensioner fair enough but rad- no!
Thanks again for your help GM!
