Question

Hi,

Two questions really. Firstly what advantages are there to fitting a Knock Link sensor? Is it purley to allow visual warning of engine knock and thus suggesting that things are taken easy until it is safe to nail it again?

Secondly, is it worth (or rather is it sensible) to fit one to a Sport? I know that a factory fit sensor is fitted. Does the Knock Link work in coonjunction with it?

Cheers for the education!

All the best

Dave

A Knocklink is. used in conjunction with the F/F knock sensor.

The sensor is used to send signals to the ECU.

Which should alter ignition MAP to suit engine load.

A knocklink is best used on a JDM or Modded car,

This is used as a driver aid to signal the presence of Pre ignition(knock).

You could fit a Knocklink to any car.

If you feel the need to be warned of impending Detonation/Pre ignition/Knock.

Certainly advisable if you are running a modified car of any sort.

And if you feel uncertain about modifications being outwith the parameters of an unmapped/mapped ECU.

Say again? If by "F/F" you mean "factory fit", you're completely wrong. The KnockLink can't be used with the standard fit knock sensor, it needs a dedicated one to be fitted.

That said though, there's little, if any risk of detonation on a normally aspirated Impreza engine, so in this case there's little need to fit one.

Off course you are right .

Mean to say Knocklink can be fitted as wellas a Knock sensor and is not co-joined.

Indeed. a separate fitment.

Sorry for any confusion.

A spot of nit-picking - you might notice pre-ignition without the knocklink, as it likely means there's a hole in a piston .

As to fitting in a sport - my guess is that you wouldn't get much use out of it. Det in a NA car is much less likely & much less destructive. A bit of a simplification, but basically the problems caused by det & are of such a concern in a turbo aren't so with an NA engine
