I am looking at upgrading my standard back box. When speaking to my local dealer he mentioned putting a P1 back box on for around £280. Is the P1 back box the same as the Prodrive one?

Or shall I just opt for Scoobysport?

The P1 backbox is not the same as the Prodrive one. It is a standard STi unit, with single tail pipe. I understand this to be much the same as the standard UK box, which has twin tail pipes - so no great benefit. You will not be satiisfied with a P1 backbox if you're looking for a decent sound - the P1 is very quiet as standard. I've just fitted a Scoobysport backbox to my P1, and it now sounds the biz. I had one on my previous MY99 and missed that sound so much !
Prodrive will supply their backbox as an extra for a P1, but they are a bit precious about supplying it for other Imprezas, unlesss it's part of their engine upgrade pack. I'd go for the Scoobysport at £260 plus VAT. If you can get to them in the Basildon area, they should fit FOC.

I am sold. Will be calling Scoobysport today to make the necessary arrangements. I just needed to check out the alternatives before going ahead.

Did the addition of hte back box affect your insurance?

Cheers

It havn't brought the matter to my insurer's attention. I didn't on the previous car either. I guess that strictly, I should. If the insurers make it quite clear that they should be advised of any form of modification, then you may be best advised to discuss it with them. Despite what S/sport may say with regard to performance claims, I doubt whether the car will be
much / if any quicker on the backbox alone. Now, fit a decatted downpipe as well, and that certainly should improve things !
Please give me a call, if you want to chat over.
