Hi
I have just discovered that my 93WRX has been chipped .The chip is made by PROVA (anyone heard of them?).I believe that it was fitted in Japan prior to import, and is the source of my detting problems. Is it possible to have this removed and go back to std. settings? Any advice would be gladly recieved, ROB

I have found that my ECU is the original JECS unit with the PROVA chips plugged on top of the PCB. I wish to remove them but link has not been cut but removed. Not sure if this link was actualy a resistor. Anyone had any experience with this?

Rob,

Assuming that your car has a similar ECU to my car, there are two brown resistors on the ECU (and you said one is missing).

They do not have any markings on them and are fitted to the points labelled J1 and L1.

They look identical but I guess that would be a dangerous assumption to make.

Maybe it's worth talking to Power Engineering who modify the standard ECU as they should know the specification -

The missing item is a zero ohm resistor, if you bridge the gap again and remove the chip the ecu will work as per original.

Bob + Gavin
I have succesfuly reverted the ECU back to its original settings (very tense moment when turnung the key for the first time!) Max boost is down from 1.15 bar to 0.8 bar:-( Doesnt feel quite as deadly :-( Max speed limiter now works:-l No more detting(getting a knock link to be on safe side) :-) I can sleep at night again :-) Anyway, thanks again, ROB

Rob,

I'm glad to hear you got it sorted....

If I were you, I would put an ad in the "For Sale" section - emphasizing that 100RON is required and see if someone is interested.

Looking at the Prova site, these chips are £600 new! They don't wear out either so possibly someone who doesn't mind 97RON + Octane Booster or an owner abroad who has better fuel than us may want it...

As long as they get the car checked after fitting for A/F ratio and detonation it could be a worthwhile upgrade - as long as they don't do a lot of miles in the UK.... 97RON petrol + octane booster, ouch!

Thanks

Gavin
