Rear Diff Bearing replacement - How Easy
#1
I think my rear diff bearings may be worn due to noises I get on over-run, maybe he propshaft bearing. But there is a slight fluid leak on each driveshaft, so it may be worth doing all.
How easy is it to drop the diff out i.e are the driveshafts held in with spring/circlips and just pop-out or do I need to un do the 6 or so bolts surrounding them to get them out.
once the diff is out how easy is it to replace the bearings i.e will i need a bearing puller and fly-press etc.
Also what oil should go back in..
Cheers all....

Scott,
I think the problem is setting the pre-load on the crown wheel and pinions correctly after replacing the bearings.
If you get it wrong, it will whine like mad and your expensive new crown wheel will be ruined after a couple of hundred miles.
I haven't done this myself, but I have entrusted a diff repair to some people who didn't have the tools and knowledge to do a proper job. Needless to say, the results were less than successful....
If you're competent with this type of rebuild, then disregard the above...
Cheers,
Alex
