Gearbox crunch from 1st to 2nd
#1
While driving my wife to hospital last Friday morning to have our first baby the gearbox crunched when changing from first to second at high revs. I put this down to the circumstances but it has happened again. Could this just be the synchro or is it a new gearbox job? Any ideas on fixes or costs greatly appreciated.
UK 94MY 50000 miles - had the car too long to still have a warranty!
p.s. Adam was born at 09:56 weighing in at 7lb 13oz.

Congrats on the new baby!
I have some crunching sometimes too, some of the guys here have put Silkolene gearbox oil in and has make gearchange much smoother. So for my 30K service I think i'll have to invest in some Silkolene! Maybee it's worth you trying that first before any major expense. I think you need a special syringe for a DIY job.

I too have a bit of a notchy change from 2nd to 3rd sometimes (no crunching tho') and the Silkolene oil was recommended to help this. My car is due for its 60000 mile service soon so i might give it a try then.
I'm not worried about the notchyness, it seems quite a lot of people have the same problem. Not too sure if its crunching the gears tho'. If its only every so often try the oil change it mey help, good luck.

P.S Congrats on the baby also
