Question

Can anyone tell me if this is the norm?
I have recently had a new sooby sport down pipe fitted since then i get a loud wooshing sound from the turbo on excelleration like airs coming thru the air vent by the windscreen .Its not at all like the sound before the upgrade.

Is this normal or has something gone wrong??

Question

Hmmm....... Difficult this one without actually hearing it?

Have you noticed a loss in performance that coincides with the whooshing noise?

It is common to hear a more pronounced noise from the turbo as it spools up with a straight through downpipe, it will be quite a high pitched, more like a whistling noise?

Mike its a WRX v5 and there was and still is the whistling but a whoosh to go with it,
there is no loss of performance that i can tell.
It was only fitted wednesday and it pulls alot quicker than with the original part.

There was also a debate on the 22B B/B about the lagging of down pipes. If this is so important why is it not done as standard when refitting (at extra cost) ">

Think you will find the noise is perfectly normal for a free flowing downpipe.

Not sure why it would be essential to lag a downpipe, the standard one isnt, can only assume it would keep the underbonnet temps down ?

Ian.

Mine has the S/S downpipe and it too makes all the noises you are talking about. You can hear the turbo spin up and you get a definate dumping noise when you lift your foot. The O/E downpipe is heavily shielded and also the wastegate is effectively blanked off, all of which you no longer have with the S/S pipe.

I have just refitted my old downpipe for the MOT but when I refit the S/S one I will be lagging it. If for nothing else to try to dampen the noise inside the car! I do remember Firefox saying that by lagging the pipes the exhaust gasses stay hotter and therefore travel faster, giving slightly more power. But maybe he was just talking pants . It will keep the heat down inside the engine baythough and stop all the steam from coming out of the scoop when its raining! You can get the exhaust wrap from demon tweeks. 2" wide x 50' is approx £50.

Hope this helps!

Steve
