Just got back from visiting Mark Shead of M A Developments. Mark had his det cans on whilst I drove my STi 6 around the Maidenhead bypass and there was absolutely no sign of knocking or detonation at all. I've had a KnockLink installed to keep on eye on the situation, but whatever Subaru changed from the STi 5 ECU to the STi 6 one seems to have cured any problems running on 97RON. Phew!

I suspect the STi 6 ECU is the same one thats fitted to the P1 (or very similar), Prodrive and STi arent going to spend all that time, money and effort just to fit it to 1000 cars are they ?

I have read somewhere - can't remember where - that the Sti 6 has a slightly lower compression ratio.

This would help a lot!

Are P1s based on MY99 or MY00 Sti engines? Anyone know?

No,David, it does not.

It is exactly the same as STi5

So are the engines on my99 and my00 and P1

regards
q.

PS. According to people at STi (Japan) there is no difference in the ecu on 5 and 6.

agree with quattro - essentially the same engine - though I think you will find the sti 6 ecu has a different pinout - needs to be re-wired to be used in an sti 5...anyone care to confirm this?

btw - you might like to read my summing up on:

Question

I have edited this after reading your feedback on the other thread.

Having fixed a number of problems with my car relating to poor running and knock it has never been totally eradicated. But I could have had the same problem as you!

David

Remember guys, the fuel companies switched to 97 RON super unleaded on 1 Nov 99 (without telling us!). My 97, STI4 RA runs fine, in fact it seems to be getting quicker (or am I learning to tame the beast better!!)
Regards

Roger
