Hi

I'm Begining to lose all hope for my MY93 WRX.
I purchased the car about 3 weeks ago and it seems to suffer from a intermitant hesitation/restriction. Sometimes it will go like the clappers and all is well, but every now and then it's lame!
I have changed the plugs, Air,Oil + Fuel filters. Ive tried Checking the ECU - No faults stored. Ive re-set the ECU, but to no avail.
After reading all the related threads I tried swapping the coil-packs from another car. Mine appeared to be O.K apart from 1 which had a tiny crack but I changed them all any-how. I did notice an improvement but it's still not right. I know these subsitute coil-packs aren't new but the are from a car with no problems.
It seems to go better if I don't floor it and gently feed the throttle in. Please can someone shed some light on this problem as it is driving me to distraction!!
Any info would be greatly appreiciated

Thanks.

just a suggestion here. Take it to a scooby specialist and get it checked out on the analyzer, it may be something as simple as a knackered sensor or incorrectly set waist gate/ map etc etc etc

Take it to someone who knows more than you, its worth spending the money on that than waisting time and money playing at fault finding.

Yes, I think that is what I'll have to do.

Can anyone recommend the best place to go?

Is there anywhere in the North-West area?

Wink

You've probably read my posts in the past but here goes anyway!!

I have an identical car which had an identical problem. Changing the coilpack stopped the car cutting at high boost, but there was a definate hesitation at about 5500 rpm. The car was at the garage (Falkland in Glenrothes) for 2 days during which time every sensor was subbed from another car. The last bit which was changed was the ECU which completely and utterly cured the problem. IMO look into subbing an ECU from somewhere and see what happens.

If it does need changing, I would seriously think about an aftermarket one (PossumLink or similar) I wished I had due to the inherent cost of the OE one!!

Anyway, give it a go, it's another thing to rule out, all the best..

Richie.

BTW if you gently ease off and then go back to full throttle does it pull again?? Mine did.

Thumbs up

Cheers Richie, I'll give it a go. I don't think there is much left to try!
Yes mine does seem to pull better if I back off a bit then give it a boot full.

Today I subbed the Air Flow Meter and waste-gate solenoid, as well as fitting a boost gauge. To begin with there was no change in its behaviour and was only pulling 0.5 - 0.6 Bar. Then all of a sudden I was getting 0.9 Bar and the car was alot quicker and, touch wood, has been O.K since. Although it still hesitates now and then but not as often.

So does this mean that the ECU 'learns' that a new component has been fitted to replace a faulty item and adjusts accordingly? Or is this just a co-incidence?

I am at my wits end and am going to take it to someone who knows the score. Would someone please make a suggestion as to where I can take it?Preferably somewhere in the North.

The other annoying thing about this is, it only seems to be O.K when I'm on my own. As soon as I take someone for a spin it shapes wooden! Then they wonder what all the fuss is about Impreza's and reckon they aren't all that they are cracked up to be. So i'm on a mission to prove them wrong, because i've seen what it can do when it puts its mind to it!!

Question

Now youve got a boost gauge fitted it will make it a lot easier. I was getting 0.6 Bar when the car was hanging back, when pulling normal (and with new ECU) 0.8 Bar which is correct for the MY93 WRX.

My money is on an ECU, I really would recommend you try it as the problem sounds TOO similar to mine!!

Anyway, is this a pattern with the MY93 WRX ??....I think so....

Best of Luck, go get it swapped!

Richie.
