Unhappy

I've had my new MY00 Turbo for just a couple of weeks, and whilst giving it a polish this afternoon I had a look underneath from the rear of the car.

I don't know the anatomy of the car too well, but I noticed just to the right of the exhaust pipe and about 2 feet from the back end of the car there's a plate (part of the rear differential?) about 5 inches across and held on by hex bolts round the outer edge. There appears to be a crack running across almost the entire width of this plate!

Am I just misinterpreting something, or should I get on to a dealer straight away? What could have caused it?

I dont think you should have a crack there, havent looked that close at the plate, but if you are worried take it into your dealer ASAP.

I also feared that my MY99 Scoob had a crack in the rear diff the first time I looked under the car. When you look closely it is not a crack but something on the surface of the plate like black paint. Anyhow, in more than 3000 km, my rear diff should have lost all its oil if it was cracked.
You shouldn't worry too much, but it's better to have it checked

I've had it checked - sure enough, it turned out to be a line of silicone goop and not a crack at all. Still, even the dealer had to put it up onto a ramp to check, so I don't feel too bad about it
