Electronic boost controllers...

This could be interesting... People may loose eyes/limbs/dignity/pistons...

Looked at them (EBCs) myself, prefer an ecu remap (PE Phase One) or remappable ecu (Possum Link) to these bolt on bits. When upping the boost you have to get the ignition and fueling right to avoid engine damage.

Hello and thanks for this first impression.
But, living in Spain, how can i obtain an ecu remap (PE Phase One) or remappable ecu (Possum Link)?
it is expensive?
it is the best solution?
I'm going to london this month (last 3 days i'm think) for job...

Thanks very very much and regards for all.

Becase of the lack of availability of the Possum Lik etc. in your country I would go for an electronic boost controller. I am having to do the same for my car for the same reason. They work reliably, giving quicker vboost response, but don't go overboard with your boost and make sure you are not going lean (use an exhaust gas temperature gauge) and are not detonating. Be aware that several other manufacturers make similar products, HKS, GReddy, Apex-i, Sard etc. I do not see too many people using the Blitz controllers. The HKS EVC and Greddy Profec B seem to be the most popular.

Getting hold of a PE Phase One remap in Spain ain't gonna be easy! You'de have to bring your car to PE so they can set it up on their rolling road, so "in Spain" would be a no-go on that one.

Getting hold of a Possum Link shouldn't be too difficult. You can either get one direct from Possum Bourne or go through ScoobyMania, but you will need the tuning module for it to be useful.

Depending on the year and model of your car, you may also have to upgrade your MAP sensor. You'll be looking for a 250kPa sensor with a 5V feed. These are available from Power Engineering among other places.

Cheers,

Pat.

The Possum Link is a complete ecu that replaces your existing unit. The link is user programmable, but it is possibly a better idea to get it set up by a professional engine tuner and avoid the risk of damaging the engine yourself.

Link would be a good idea in spain as you can make adjustments for the fuel quality and weather conditions yourself if necessary. Phase One could only be adjusted back in Uxbridge, England.

Hello

Thanks very much Moray.
In the case of using the possum link, can i find anywhere how to use the parameters for
fuel quality and weather?

Can i, with this system use 95RON fuel with good performance?

I need to use too an exhaust without cats and a new air filter?

thanks again for this important help for me.

Vivaldi,

You can have a look at the Possumlink manual on-line at this address:

But i need info about the product, price, if it is good for my standard car, if i can use it with the standard tune, what i need to do when i change the exhaust, if i obtain more power with a simple installation of the system, etc...

Thanks to all if anyone can tell me anything about these questions...

Once again thanks to everybody that want to help me in this big question that is the power in scooby.

Hi Vivaldi,

The Possumlink is a powerful and flexible system, but as usual this flexibility doesn't come cheap - expect to pay 800-950 UKP for the ECU and associated bits (lambdalink, knocklink, Possumlink). How far you can go depends on how much you want to spend (as usual). If you keep within the 1.15bar overboost cut-out then a boost controller will be effective and cost-efficient. It will be safe for your engine too because you will be working within the limits of the Standard ECU, so fueling and ignition timing should be correct. If you want to go further then a programmable ECU might be a better idea. Installation for the Possumlink and accessory modules is (apparently) relatively straight forward, but getting a good map set up for your car really requires in-depth knowledge, or the help of an expert tuner. The main advantage of a fully programmable ECU is that you can alter the map to accomodate whatever bits (exhausts, filters, or other mods) you fit to the car. The downside is that, once again, this requires in-depth knowledge or expert help.

Some people with UK spec cars are running the Possumlink - I'm sure Lee will tell you all about his experiences it if you ask him

Rgds,

Alex

That'll be me then

post any questions on the BBS, but mail me as well so I know when to look !

I'm (I think) a good person to ask cos
a) no commercial involvement
b) want to map it myself
c) have enough basic knowledge but am learning the finer points. Perhaps I should write a diary "me and my possum"

Seems that I shall be joining the club (errr, of Link owners that is).... should be interesting to bring some of the stuff I learn back over to the JECS live mapping board [the design seems to be changing daily, I'll settle on something soon. maybe. :-)]

Now, just need to get some new coil packs. Hmmmm :-(

Cheers,

Pat.
