Unhappy

I posted a request for help/advice/comments last weekend about a subject I am very concerned about. i.e. Air filters. Only had one response, thanks Lee, but this is not enough to draw any conclusions from. Therefore MY00 will be returning to standard this weekend. I'm still not convinced that it's that much better than the MY97 it replaced, but maybe it's not loosened up yet.
Had a very interesting conversation with a Subaru "specialist" today, hence another reason why my car is returning to standard, for the time being.

Steve,

I asume what you mean, is that you are running the car with a ITG or RamAir filter, and you are worried about the press that oiled filters have been recieving!

I thought Pete Croney had reassure everyone that there isn't a problem with them!!

I've heard that the K&N paper give a better response initally, but after a bit of use they get clogged and less effective!

I've heard people say that the HKS filter is poor.

I've heard of a MAP sensor being killed by a Blitz.

I know people with K&N air inductors who say that it improves throttle response, but that was the side effect!!!

I've heard of RamAirs distorting and leaving some oil in the plastic below the filter holder.

All of the above is hear say as I've haven't personally seen this, or spoken to the owners.

I use an ITG filter, I've had it in the car for about 15,000miles in my UK MY97 for about 7-8 months. I checked it the other night, and the filter is still the same shape, and no excess oil has leaked out of it!

From personal experience, all I can say is that the ITG filter is damn fine!

I hope this puts your mind at rest!

May not be my place to say this but I am sure that if you had problems with your filter Pete would take care of you (assuming you bought it there !!)

leave it in.

as for the "not much better than MY97"..when I first got my MY99 it didnt impress me..after 10k miles I REALLY noticed the difference..stick with it.
