Twisting and turning the turbo

Has anyone seen or have had done a turbo relocation? Twists the turbo 45 degrees towards the RHS of the car! Better for intake, no twists & turns which is why the WRC's have it done.

How can the MAF be ditched then? How is it possible to map accurately for fuel, gnition etc. without knowing the density of the air going into the engine? I had a good look at a WRC engine a few months back, but didn;t spot that there wasn't any air-flow sensor ... will have to look at my photos!
So, do you have to start reading another engine parameter in order to map correctly? What else is there to read?

Hi there...
I heard a rumour of someone doing it... but not sure
It would allow for the intake to be changed. So that the MAF can be ditched... the air filter bolted straight onto the turbo. The intake outlet points straight forward for a front mount I/C.. the header flange would need to be rotated... and either a bent downpipe or exhaust housing elbow would be required.
In theory quite simple to do.... Only reason for doing it is to minimise the piping required for a front mount I/C.
Then you would need to modify the intake manifold and make that front facing with the throttle body.

You used the device name about 5 times in your reply... lol
You use a MAP sensor.. The Link and a few other ECU's use a MAP instead of the AFM..
The new 00 2.5 in the states uses a MAP instead of a AFM/MAF.
On alot of cars the AFM/MAF is a big restriction in airflow... The Scoob has one of the largest I've seen..
You can get devices that will convert a car from a MAF/AFM to a MAP.... such as the HKS VPC, etc...
My car is sorta on the road... Just need to sort out the boost/ignition/fuelling side of things...
It will be done before Donno (I have been promised by HKS)

By doing that ... U will get direct cold air feed to the turbo...and U can have rampipe install to ur turbo.
If U want to run the car without AFM ... U will need to use 3Bar MAP sensor.... and Programmable ECU. GM 3bar MAP sensor is cheap compare to weber unit.
If this is the direction U want to go ... U can even plum in an Air Temp. Sensor.... taken from STi 4 ...hehehehe.

Howdy...
You could use a cold air intake... but combining that with the ram might cause a problem over here.... there used to be issues with the car always running on "choke", because it was always getting real cold air (during winter).
