Question

Hi All,

The title says it all really - The gearbox has just been replaced on my MY98, and I'm wondering if you have to take it easy for a bit, or can you just go for it from the off?.

I know it doesn't need running in in the sense that an engine will, but I'm wondering if there is a 'bedding in' period.

Thanks,

A.

From memory, the Impreza Manual says that the running in process should be repeated for a new engine, a remounted engine, or a new gearbox.

Hard to believe you'd have to take it easy for the full 1000 miles though!

guys, guys, everthing needs running in...even brakes! U'll have to get the synchros n gears to run-in for a better contact, b4 anything breaks! Chill for a while n shift those gears often n under normal driving...endure n things will last longer unless abused.

Oh Dear.

Ok, so I'm going to have to take it easy for a bit. I'd hope that I was easy on my transmission by using heel and toe, but what comprises 'taking it easy' for a gearbox?. Are there any speed/rev/load limits? and for how long?.

I'd appreciate some recommendations from anyone who knows.

It is a shame, as the old box was just starting to shift really nicely after 9500miles, and this one feels tight and notchy like they seem to when new.

Cheers,

A.

P.S. a new gearbox is £2505 if you're paying for it.

Ok, there's no real distance or time to run in gear box, but I'd say, keep shifting gently until U feel it's ok, getting it loose means wear n tear...old g/box. Tight is better. Maybe can consider having oil replaced as well once U feel good wif it? Some 500Km should be ok.
