Question

Hi all

I'm about to order a Magnex backbox and mid-section cat replacementment pipe on my UK '99.

Would it be better to ask my dealer to do this or allow Elite(the supplier) fit these items?

Am I correct in assuming that the UK '99 has two cats and so removing one, via the mid-section, will not cause any MOT problems?

Thanks

Sonu

Thumbs up

Hmm, Magnex. Almost bought one of them but couldn't be bothered to wait for the factory to make another batch of midsections. It'll be interesting to hear that at the 'ring. Although it may not be as loud as you might think.

The exhaust replacement is pretty straightforward from the midsection back, so it shouldn't really matter who fits it. Opinion on the bulletin board is that you should be OK for the emissions test in 2.5 years, but I don't recall seeing anyone actually post a "I've done that and my car passed"-type post.

Just seen a comment on this from the Scooby guru himself, see: bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/Forum9/HTML/000154.html

Thanks for the reply Tony

I've just phoned my local Scooby garage and the mechanic suggested that I leave the mid section alone.

Tony, which exhaust did you go for?

Thanks

Sonu

I went for the OMP exhaust (mid and rear, same bore as the standard item). It's not nearly as loud as I was expecting, based upon the comments made by the vendor. I'm currently wondering whether I'll need to buy a new one as I gave it a dreadful-sounding bump going very slowly over a speed bump this morning.
