gearbox switches????

The one higher up towards the gear lever is the neutral switch.
I had a similar problem leading up to my MOT. I took it off, cleaned it well, cleaned the connector pins, staightened wires and have not had a problem since.
I got a s/hand neautral switch from grade a subaru for about £10. The reverse switch "looks" identical so is probably the same price.

Fraid I have no answer, only an observation.
When I have the car stopped and in neutral, the idle is flat.
If I put the clutch down and put in gear, the idle blips up and down slightly.
Perhaps the neutral switch tells the ECU the gear is engaged and to increase the revs to help avoid a stall.
Holding the clutch down in gear for a while seems to confuse the ECU about whats going on.
