Have an STi V with SS backbox - the thing pops and farts like mad when decelerating, around 3-2k. Do they all do this?

yep, mine does this.

Un-Burnt fuel apparantly, nothing to worry about.

My 93 WRX does this with its Milltek stainless backbox as well, Great innit!?
