Anti Lag???

Yup, illegal on public roads.
You might be able to get an improvement with a quality DV - this is argued back & forth a lot - I found an obvious improvement with an HKS DV, and even more so with a Forge, but it (the Forge) id set to 'destroy turbo' release pressure (or would if it were an IHI one...) - it doesn't exactly dump very often. This 'no dumping' (whiether it's possible/sensible or not is very dependant on the turbo) may or may not be to your taste, though.

I don't think it's speifically noted in the regs "Thou shalt not use anti-lag", but the obvious noise/pollution problem is there & how well do you think it would stand up in court? Traffic cop sees flame flying out of the car, I think he's probably have good reason to pull it over & cause a few problems to the owner.

Nom,
I don't know why it would be illegal, except for the possible noise emmisions issue.
Compressor bypass valve systems are traditionally accused of being there to reduce turbo lag... therefore they are a form of anti-lag... but most OE turbo cars are fitted with quiet compressor bypass valve systems (dump valves).
I guess that pretty much any vent to atmo dump valve will be illegal taking the noise argument... however i've never heard anyone suggest that BOVs are illegal.

I'll have to find the reference to the law bit - I know I saw it somewhere. No idea where, though
I suppose the main reason that A-L isn't 'common' is the fairly brief life it gives to the average turbo. And I'd have thought its road manners wouldn't be much fun?

I heard the same as nom, its illegal.
Whenever they put it in Jap mags, they say its meant to be use only for track days and not on public roads

It uses vacuum from the inlet manifold to 'help' the brake master cylinder (press the brake peddle then start the engine while holding it down, you can feel it).
With anti-lag you keep the boost pressure when you come off the throttle, so no vacuum in the inlet manifold to help your your wee right (or left ) foot along.
