OK, I want to de-cat my 00 WRX, and have been told by TSL that to de-cat requires re-mapping at the cost of £650 for the re-map alone, and maybe a new fuel pump!

Is this needed?

Not sure whats the best thing to do to increase bhp, as I'm a newbie to the Scooby world. Any suggestions?

If by MY00 WRX you mean a classic shape (GC8) Japanese Domestic Market but non-STi car and they are planning on using Ecutek you will need to make sure that the appropriate ROM images have been made available to them by Ecutek as I am not aware that they were ever done for the JDM non-STis.

If you corrected any overboost that occurs after fitting the decat (which can be done with a cheap drill set and a boost gauge), and ran octane booster + Optimax and a knock detection device such as a knocklink with sensor (£140) and all was well, then a remap may not be required.
