why do you never see both superchargers and turbochargers on Motor vehicles?

common on marine stuff.

thought this would be the ultimate in antilag!

Didn't one of the group B Lancias run this sort of setup?

Bitch to do but very possible!

I have a SLK230 Supercharged pushing around 240bhp and if you turbocharge it as well it pushes around 350bhp. But the way it delivers it is unreal. But it is a £15k conversion... .**** that!

Lancia Delta S4. bets rally car that ever was IMHO. Henri Toivonen lapped an F1 circuit fast enough to put it on the third row of the grid with the F1 cars! ran turbo and supercharger in the wild days of group B

There was a Canary Yellow Mk 1 Cortina (Tubbed etc) around my area 10 years ago that was a supercharged and turbo charged V8.
I believe he was part of a street legal 1/4 mile regular sprint series. He used to go up High Beach every Sunday with all his mates in big american V8's before the boyracers took over the area .
Body probably rusted away years ago, but I heard it was a pretty quick animal on the strip..

It was the third row of the grid (6th) and in Portugal. Fantastic car the S4 but the next evolution for group S was to junk the supercharger/turbo combo for one small turbo and one large turbo.

always thought the space issue and development costs would be the defining factor - cheers for all the replies, been away so did not respond sooner.

This was done on a Micra too, not available over here.

It was called the SuperTurbo I think. It's a car you can buy on Gran Turismo2

It is quite an expensive setup to engineer though.

If I remember on the Lancia, the supercharger spins up on its own first, then when the turbo begins to make decent boost, the supercharger tails off and lets the turbo take over.

Also, IIRC, someone called ***** Koenig (I think) used to do such things to Ferrari's for those of you who didn't think they were fast enough. Have vague recollection of a testarossa (again, I think) with twin turbos and one supercharger pushing out 900 odd bhp, with pretty brutal torque too. Admittedly, his conversions weren't cheap, and you had to supply the Ferrari to start with . . . .
