Question

Just had my RB5 serviced today. The dealer reported that the centre section was corroded and blowing, and therefore needed replacing...

It is a WR Sport model, so has the decatted centre section already.

The dealer quoted £240 plus fitting for a new centre section, which seems *very* expensive to me. They also quoted £20 for a "Gasket - exhaust centre" and "Gasket - muffler".

Having read up on the Magnex centre sections, I'm thinking of going for one of the straight throughs at about £60, which is much better on the wallet than what the dealer is asking!

If I go for this, do I need to order the gaskets too?

Also, is this a job I could do myself (I don't have a ramp), or is it easier to get an exhaust place to do it?

Any advice appreciated!

Cheers,

Christian

Easy if you`ve got a trolley jack and some spanners. Your dealer`s taking the pi$$, my last gasket from my dealer cost £2!!!

Red face

It transpires the dealer quoted for a centre section with cat. When I said to them that PPP cars don't have a centre cat, he said they did! I told the guy to ring Prodrive

Got quoted £109 for the proper centre section from another dealer, which is bit more what I expected...

Change takes about 30 minutes, plus you're unlikely to need the downpipe to centre section gasket, the one at the back is a possibility, but that one is only about £4 from the dealer.

I replaced my downpipe and centre a few weeks ago.

THink it cost me £36 for the three gaskets.

But sounds like it's blowing at the centre/downpipe join.
