Question

Gearbox and rear diff from a Sti etc - close ratios.

How much would I be looking to pay for a good example?

cheers

Can't comment on pricing, but if you're talking about an STi Type R box, you'll need a fair bit more than the box and rear diff alone. R180 rear diff needs matching driveshafts and hubs, and if you got the hubs you'd also probably need the two pot brakes, and you'd lose the ABS reluctor as well.

May be cheaper/more practical to get driveshafts or hub adapted so you can keep original uprights and brakes/ABS.

Similarly, if you want the DCCD to work, you'd need the ECM, thumbwheel and STi instrument panel too.

he doesnt need the dccd..

what he wants is a closer ratio's

and something like the 4.44 rear or whatever it was..

dan look for an early RA box and rear diff..

Its the r160 rear you need..

I'm also after similar advice for my Forester MY97.

It has UK turbo ratios and a 4.44 rear diff.

Looking through the you & your Subaru turbo book, a couple of boxes look promising. The MY94 STi RA and MY97 STi R.

In swapping boxes, do I need the front driveshafts or are they common through the whole Impreza/Forester family?

Also, do the models listed above have trick centre diffs and I would need to carry over all the trimings?

Other than that, I could keep the current box (done 80,000 miles) and get a 1.05 4th gear (US RS 2.5 4th) and a 0.8 5th gear (if it exists?)

ive got somebody looking at my car end of the month, if it doesnt sell, im going to return it to standard.

its got an RA box and rear diff, close ratio, both done about 25Kmiles now, came from same car.

if i return to standard i am looking at p/x it against a uk box and rear diff. however, i would want cash too, but not sure how much its worth.

well mine is a leggy too, so i could swop with you however my box is ok but in all honesty its worn. Its starting to crunch into 2nd at high revs..

Whats it like with the Ra box, out of interest? did it make a huge difference to the performance?
