Hi all,

I have looked around through 'search' and while I have read you need to check a/f readings when on WOT above 4,000 rpms I have not seen anything more detailed than this.

I have a JDM STI7 and DD and want to do a check on my MAF. Can someone tell me what I need to do and what I should be looking for on the DD log to see if anything is wrong.

Do a run in 3rd gear at WOT from around 3000rpm to just before redline. I'm not sure on your model, but on the stock unmapped MY99/00, the O2 sensor readings should be over 0.90volts above roughly 4500rpm.

I think your car from memory (could be wrong) has had an Ecutek remap by Pat, so I would be guessing your O2 sensor readings above 4500 will be around the 0.88/0.89volts. If you see under 0.86volts your MAF could be on it's way as the mixtures are starting to get leaner.

The test must be done while the lambda sensor is cool otherwise it will under read.

Is that the 'Rear O2 sensor' parameter for the STI-7's ?

I looked at the log on the ecuteck.com website for the UK STI7 and it showed a Rear O2 sensor reading of above .95 after about 4,000 rpms ??? Have a look at that log on the website....is that high a reading normal and I should perhaps be getting .90 - .94 due to my remmap ?

0.95volts isn't high for the new age cars. Quite normal. They run richer than the classics from what I've seen as standard. I've even seen 1.0volts. The rear O2 sensor readings are the ones they look at when viewing logs.

I'm not sure how the tuners like to map the new age cars. 0.88/0.89volts is what they like to map the classic's with. I'm not sure what the go is with the new age cars, so I couldn't say if 0.90/0.94volts is what you'd be seing.

What are you seeing?

Hey,

I looked at some of my old logs before the ScoobySport remmap. It was running between 1.0 - 1.015 rear O2 sensor voltage.

After the remmap she runs between .95 - 1.05 (1.05 only very rarely seen close to redline).

I am going to do another run tonight from 2k - redline in 3rd gear and see what she gives me. If it is in that range they I guess that means my MAF is ok ?

Is there anyway I can post a DD log on here so some of the experts can read it and give their viewpoints as to why she is sluggish ? I am going to have the spark plugs replaced tomorrow (they have never changed plugs on a Scooby before, any pointers I should give them....they are good mechanis so I have hear ?)
Once the plugs are replaced I am hoping that my misfire troubles will disappear, then I have to have the CrankShaft Poisition sensor replaced so that my starting problems disappear.....this SCooby ownership is fun eh

If it's in that range it will be fine. I have a feeling that your MAF will be OK because if your mixture was getting leaner, then the car would feel faster. Your car however, is feeling sluggish.

MAFs can be faulty with a different symptom as well. Sometimes they run too rich down low and it causes erratic idling, spluttering and causing the ECU to go into limp home mode allowing only low boost and low revs and will usually show up as a fault in the DD diagnostic trouble code reader. I feel you may have another problem instead of the MAF.

As for posting logs on here, when you have the log on your screen, hit the Print Screen button, go to a Graphics/Paint application and select Paste. Low and behold, a screen grab appears. Save it as a GIF file, in say your documents, then upload it to a web server and continue on as you normally do, to post a pic on here.

Thanks George,

I did a DD run tonight and for some reason all the readings are completely screwy....like it says I was doing 150 mph ????, the min max rpm was 8,000 - 9,000 ?????, I mean it was just reading crazy numbers for all parameters ????

Anyone ever had this happen to their deltadash before ?

Hi George,

I did another DD log this morning and everything is working fine. Very strange indeed. Do you have DD ? If so can I mail you my two DD files (#1 The weird one and #2 The good 3rd gear run from this morning). I am getting .95 - 1.001 on my rear O2 sensor readings....I think there may be a lean spot around 7,500 rpms where it dips to .7XX but this may be where started to lift of the accelerator ??? Wany someone to take a look at this DD log closely for me.

I have had a look at your logs and all is normal. The lean bit at the end is where you have lifted off the throttle. This is indicated by the revs dropping and boost dropping at that point.

You should have had the throttle sensor voltage box ticked as well, as this would have indicated to us that at that point you backed off the throttle, however the revs and boost indicate you did back off at the said point.

So your MAF looks to be in good working order. I however can't make out where the backfiring or loss of power is from your logs. It looks fine to me. There is no neagtive knock correction, plenty of advance and your wastegate duty cycle seems fine too. I would have liked to see your fuel injection duty cycle, but it's not ticked.

With the strange log, you probably mixed up the switch. Instead of logging where you were giving it, you mistakenly logged when you were cruising.

If someone could tell me where to upload pics, I could post the logs on here. I have them ready and saved.

What do you make of the next grid over showing .9XX voltage on O2 sensor.....any reason why the spike, just trying to 100% rule out the possibility of I was still on throttle and there is a lean spot ?

That 0.95v on the next grid is just the car going into closed loop mode again since you backed off. In closed loop mode, the MAF voltages go up and down. Nothing to worry about.

Guess what.....had the spark plugs changed today and what a difference !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feels awesome and better than ever. I did some more DD logs and all looks well.

I also did a 3rd gear dyno (4th is usually a few more bhp and torque) but anyway got 256.2 bhp 6319 rpms and 232.9 LBFT at 4922 rpms !!!! Awesome hey ??? That's about 320 - 340 BHP I guess so maybe a little more with a 4th gear run

Wonder why my sprk plugs went so quick???...maybe it was the octane booster I had to use becuase the 98 RON gas (my car was mapped for 98 RON) was all out so I used 95 RON with tons of octane booster just recently...maybe I used to much booster (super 104 racing formula). Anyway, my plugs came out with a red coating and black build up everywhere. I have some pics on my digi camera of them and will try and post them tomorrow........where can I get a pic loader at ?

You beat my horsepower as well. But it's close. 254.3hp and 240.lbft atw with DD road dyno.

Hi George,

What car and mods you got ?

Still gonna try and get those spark plug pics up today if work permits...if not may be a weekend job.

The errors I got were no really my cars errors....I looked at the ecu error section when the unit was unplugged from my car with the dongle in and I guess they were just errors EcuTek put in so one could see what they looked like in when running demo mode....so I guess I still need to figure out why my car has this starting issue once every so often....no CEL have ever popped up on my dash (guess I should have realized from the start that the DD errors were not from my car because the CEL never showed up )

Is there such a thing as a little clutch sensor to tell when the clutch has been pushed in or not for starting on the JDM cars ? Part#, price ?? for a JDM STI7 clutch sensor ? Anyone ever had to replace ?

My car is a 4 door Euro spec Impreza MY00. Mods include, APS cold air induction kit with K&N filter, 5Zigen Canonball exhaust midsection and backbox, standard downpipe, VF23 turbo, Samco intercooler hoses, Blitz BOV, Ecutek JB Tek 3 running 1.2bar boost, Lamco boost gauge and Knocklink.

Those error codes without the dongle plugged in would defo be the Ecutek sample error codes.

Can't help you on the clutch sensor issue. I have no idea.

Nice car. Wish I was there to go for a rap in it.

Plugs are stuffed. Looks like the octane booster's leftover deposits contaminated them.

Why dowser, you think there could be other issues or will they look similar to this ? I mean car is a new car after the plugs ?

What are your thoughts on checking the new plugs after a month ?

Confirm it is just the octane booster, and not some local additive in your petrol. Basically, they look horrible and I'd want to be sure I'd fixed whatever was causing it
