Thought I might get away with this one! Car did 120 miles no bother, v quiet on the turbo timer when I parked up. Next day cranks, fires, oil pressure light doesnt extinguish (stuck relief valve). Turn off (quickly), give to rally colin who quickly fits uprated oil pump, turn on, bottom end clattering away merrily! Im surprised how delicate these engines are. I know Im not the only one whos been through this, any ideas about the cheapest way to replace/rebuild engine?

Cheers

Andy

Perhaps Colin can source a second hand engine but it needs to be of known history. Alternatively, speak to David o'Brien at API engines apiengines@hotmail.com. They have secondhand, reconditioned and can recon yours own unit if you prefer. I think they shell out standard engines at a good rate.

Colin can put it back on the road for £1800 but hes also offered to take the car off my hands for a consideration, he is a good guy for giving you all the options!

Ive been offered engines at as low as £700, but this could be a big waste of time if its installed and doesnt work, so ur right about the history. None of Colins regular suppliers have engines available at the mo.

Is that Harvey with the monster power engine? Wanna sell me yours?

Might sell mine in the New Year. Not finished the mods yet.
Give David at API a ring and see if he has any suggestions.

Shame Id quite like 530 odd hp. Having said that, I suspect your engine would be worth a fair bit more than my car! API very helpful, 1750+ for a recon engine.

Very keen price and if they check out OK could be worthwhile solution so we need to hear from those with first hand experience.

There are two gearbox flanges. A 4 bolt and a 6 bolt. It is easier for the uniniciated to fit a 4 bolt to a 4 bolt and a 6 to a 6.

Phase 1 engines will suit phase 1 wiring harnesses and phase 2 have a phase 2 wiring harness. Swapping one to the other is a biggish job.

Thanks Harvey. Am I right in thinking Phase 1 is pre-96? Is the 4 and 6 bolt arrangement also age related or is that just something to check visually?

Colins number is 07771767874.
