It won't do anything to the wategate or damage anything.

The OEM downpipe is closed neck also.

What happens is that when your wastegate opens the gases coming out have to do like a 90 degree turn straight into the flow of gases from the exhaust. This obviously creates turbulence and disturbs flow.

The open neck is less of a "brick wall" to the flow and gives the wastegate gases more of a smooth path to join with the normal exhaust and thus (in theory) creates less back pressure.

Don't expect an extra 40bhp from going open neck but it should make a slight difference

nice 1 rich my heart has slowed down now, thought i'd dropped a rite b0///cK!!
However will it make much difference in performance - yeh i know usual question!!
There is already ajap system on it which has taken out the second cat! but they put in an extra 'expansion' section before it goes to the back box - weirdo's and it seems a very quiet system, difficult to here the scooby rumble!
Think the d/pipe will make it sound better!?!

Without question.

The front cat stifles a lot of noise.

You'll also feel a hefty chunk of power from decatting.
