Downpipe Heat Wrap - Yes/No?

I've noticed a lot of people mentioning they have heat wrapped their downpipes. Is this necessary? As just had a de-cat system fitted.
How easy is it to put heat wrap on the downpipe whilst fitted to the car?
Best heat wrap to get?
