Question

Im about to get a MY01/02 scooby, the thing i noticed is the lack of "kick" when the turbo comes on song compared to my MY98 i had before.
Would fitting a dawes device give me back this "kick"+ what are the power increases(HP) with it set just below fuel cut on a std car(other than b.box)

Speaking from my own personal experience, when I fitted an MBC to my MY00 it totally transformed the car, for a number of reasons.

- because there's no immediate pressure on the wastegate, until the MBC "valve" opens, the boost feels much more like the "kick" you're after.

- becauase the boost solenoid is bi-passed, the occasional hesitancy that I was suffering from, associated with a faulty solenoid or oily pipework, was eliminated.

- more precise control of max boost.

Don't know how much extra power, but to put it simply the boost went up from 11-12psi to 16psi. That's 33% extra boost pressure...

Regards,

Ade.

IMHO the biggest difference between the MY01/02 engine and the classics (and the My03+) is that it's fitted with an up-pipe catalyst. These have been known to break up if you're running higher boost (some have in the states at least), which isn't a good thing. Replace the up-pipe, and you're away. Will also give better throttle response and spool up etc.

Whilst you're at it, you may as well replace the rest of the exhaust and remap it. Then you're either happy and at 280bhp+ (Power Engineering bhp anyway), or on a long and slippery slope!

About 5-10% at the most - it will run retarded and richer with the extra boost. Power doesn't go up in proportion to relative boost pressure but absolute boost pressure only if compressor, turbine and intercooler efficiency are as good and there is octane to spare. This situation doesn't exist hence the small gains.
