Question

The head gasket has gone on a scooby belonging to a mate of mine and he's asked for some specialist advice from the knowledgeable people on scoobynet
Does the engine need to come out to replace it ?
and
Should both head gaskets be replaced at the same time ?

cheers

Being as you already have the engine out. I think it would be better to change both head gaskets, if anything it is going to save a hell of a lot of money later if the other one goes, as 1 gasket is only about £34.00 but the labour figure has to cover quite a few hours....

May as well buy a pair, you will also need inlet manifold gaskets and maybe exh manifold gaskets. Also replace the rocker cover gaskets.
Taking the engine out is simple and removing the heads is too, may as well do both for peace of mind more than anything..
