What turbo on P1?
#1
Anyone know what turbo is fitted on P1? is it a VF23?
The reason is, I am doing some work on a 93 wrx which i am told has had a P1 turbo fitted!
Anyone know what turbo should be on a 93 wrx?
Suspect turbo on its way out,(not had time to look at properly yet!) car smokes - part throttle to 2000rpm when stationary, smoke present but when driven (mid to full throttle) no smoke present. car seems to run smooth, no misfiring. This is after a long run BTW. Any ideas to throw at me before I start checking things out?
Cheers Guys.

VF28 on P1. TD05 on WRX.
There will likely be a front entry into the turbo if it runs a VF28. Side entry with OEM TD05.
If both are converted to front entry the TD05 will spool up as quickly but has more power potential. TD05 can also be economically rebuilt, so it might actually be a disadvantage that you have a "P1 turbo".

Cheers John, yes it is a VF28 with front entry. Could'nt quite make out the no. on the turbo but you have just confirmed my original thought.
IYHO would you suspect the turbo causing the fault?
Cheers

Could be an oil seal on the turbo I suppose, but why does it go away on heavier throttle. Failing VFs often make a lot of noise. Lots of possibilities, my knowledge is more on the ECU side of things than this sort of problem though, but this is not the sort of thing that can be remote diagnosed.

It might overboost. PPP does away with centre car.
This thread tells you how to sort out PPP/decat overboost
