Pre96 - How to tell if you have a Z4 ECU
#1
Only Applies to WRX Saloon
As some of you may know the Z4 ECU fitted in a 95WRX is probably one of the better stock ECU's and runs 12.7psi instead of 11.47psi and has much better fuel/ignition maps.
After reading the Latest 'Impreza' book, some interesting info came to light which will help you recognise if you are running one of these, without having to grovel in the footwell and lift the carpet.
The WRX was revised September 1994 and included some of the following changes :
Aerial moved from 'A' pillar to Rear wing
Wheels increased from 15inch 5-spokes to 16-inch 'split' 5 spokes
And Boost was increased from 600mmHg to 650mmHg
This equated to the change from 240PS to 260PS.
So if your WRX was registered in Japan afer Sept 1994 then it should have the Z4 ECU (difficult to be that accurate with an import tho')
The easiest way to tell would be the location of the aerial..see below
