Sparky N, The Impreza turbo [ or any other turbo for that matter] will have an oil feed and oil return on the back of the drivers side head for the supply to the turbo. Of course it is possible that a sharp operator could fit these to a naturally aspirated unit......

However, generally speaking there is no real way to tell unless the engine is stripped and the pistons and cylinder heads examined internally.

There are no numbers on the outside of the engine that I have ever been able to recognise that would be definitive in telling the difference.

Twin turbos have an oil feed on the opposite head at the front of the head behind the cam belt cover backplate with the return on the back of the passenger side [same] head.

Hope that helps - good luck David API Engines

Edited for typo's
