Anybody tried the modification of turning the turbo 90 degrees so that the air inlet path for the turbo is on the left hand side rather than front entry and routing under the inlet manifold. There has to be lots of restiction in the original setup and a direct feed, full size 72mm air inlet coming in to the turbo would prove to be less restrictive. Obviously the up pipe flange on the turbo would have to be rotated 90 degrees to achieve this and the exhaust outlet of the turbo would be in a different place, anybody tried this yet?
Edited to make sense I think.....Nope, Second time lucky!

Take a look at the JUN Super Lemon WRX, with the direct air feed I describe. 580 HP mean machine! Intercooler feed pipe would need drastic relocation!

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
that spec would cost over 10k easy..
Like throttle cable arrangement..
I reckon I could do better
(You'll have to wait
)

Did either of you go down the route of a radical turbo position like the Jun car or are we still on standard fitment / position ? I have one of the new APS up pipes put I'm going to chop it to get things where i want them.
Probably have to get WUNOFF to fabricate me a new down pipe to match.....

my turbo is not in the standard location.
it is nothing like that one, it has been rotated through about 70 degrees so that the compressor outlet flows under the manifold to a conventional front mount, and the air intake now point directly at the offside corner with a 6 inch straight run to an air filter.

90 degrees was too far 60 degrees wasnt far enough.
Nothing special about it, its just the angle I ended up with so that the plumbing would fit together.
Its not an accurate 70 degrees its just a rough guess from memory.
it could have been 64 degrees. who knows?
