Ok, im going to be maxing the standard 2002 wrx turbo:
equal headers
decat full system
APS TMIC
Tek 3
Presumably Im going to be skirting the edges of a 290 / 290 figure?
And so presumably I'm going to need the fuel pump upgrade???

Better off going for pink injectors & bigger turbo & uprated fuel pump; with remap should then make around 335 to 355 bhp on standard internals.
Will also be able to run this safely......(I have the injectors as I have now moved onto another project...)

sadly cant afford turbo and injectors this time round, am already doing d/pipe, headers and remap all in one chunk. Turbo etc will be after this round of tuning.
So will i need the pump at this stage??? Im presuming based on the sti7 ppp issues that i will?

Thanks Matt, I was going to say 285/290 is the limit of the standard turbo. You should get there with a decent 3" exhaust, up-pipe, induction kit, fuel pump, turbo-intercooler pipe, and ecu re-map. The car does need an up-rated fuel pump as the standard pumps can deliver the fuel flow, but the pressure begins to drop off at high RPM.
An up-rated intercooler is not really required until you change the turbo.
I'd tell you more but.....

Ed,
Yes, I'd strongly recommend an uprated Fuel pump and reg before you carry out your proposed mods. If nothing else, it will be good insurance against all the money you have already, and will spend....
Cheers,
Matt

Hi Ed
The TD04 limits things to around the figures you show, 285-290bhp, and at this level you don't need to change the pump.
Personally I would spend the money from the manifold and the top mount on the turbo and injectors, as they will not really improve on the figures that can be achieved without them but great figures can be achieved with these and the standard manifold/top mount. A pump and fuel pressure regulator are required at this higher level.

Thanks guys.
I already have the tmic (got it for an absolute steal months ago) and the headers were also a bargain from the group buy.
Seems to be no hard and fast rule to the pump at this level of performance. I've talked to most of the people really in the know and 50% say its needed and 50% say it isnt. For the sake of 150-odd quid I may get it just to be on the safe side, then all i need do in a few months is bolt on the turbo, new injectors and a map tweak.

I'm running my TD04 on its limits with a standard TMIC and full decat.
I've just been up to BRD for a few tweaks and the standard fuel pump is capable of delivering more than enough fuel top end on my set up.

Not yet, waiting for the ambient temps to come down a bit. Will be looking for a RR in mid September ish. If you want to meet up at the RR to compare when you have yours done let me know. I'd be interested to see how much extra you get with TMIC and Headers.
Not going to TRAX. Working
