MY95 WRX import
Had it in to get looked at and was told a piston has gone...smoke everywhere, cutting out, car shaking when idling, no boost.
Was advised that due to all the work needed, time, labour etc that it would be more worthwhile getting a new engine block for it rather than getting the existing one taken apart and fixed. Now I only want the best for the scoob but has anyone had a similar problem and what was the outcome? Is a new engine necessary or can it be fixed? Obviously it will need to be taken apart first to see how much damage there is.
Any help would be most welcome and lots of cash pls.

tend to find that with import engine, unless it was run "only" on high grade fuels, piston melting was and still is highly probable.
Without fully stripping the unit down, then finding the cylinder bores are damaged it is far simpler to replace the complete short motor, will take less hours too. Import engines are not keen or set up for UK/European fuel grades, so run hotter than they should with higher octane fuels.
So, once rebuilt, treat it to the best you can get.
