Dead easy, the original air box is basically a large black plastic box split diagonally to accomodate the filter. Subaru will probably charge you an arm and a leg for this part
If you want an air box try breakers such as Grade.A. or try the 'WANTED' section.
However lots of people run SUS filters with no probs but not in my experience. Apparently K&N induction kits have a good reputation amongst MY99/00 owners as they are lightly oiled with little fouling to the MAF and Apexi are supposed to be pretty good as well (my Blitz LM is a dry cotton filter so thought I would have no problems but not going to risk it again and sold the SUS)

I've been told to clean or replace the MAF sensor on my MY99. Now that fine only problem is I don't exactly know my way round the engine so don't know where it is situated. Is it a job a novice could do or should I seek professional advice?

Open bonnet.
On front, left hand side of engine bay is the air filter. Usually housed in a black plastic box. The tube leading from the air filter houses the MAF sensor. It's on the back of the tubing facing away from you.
Someone with more technical nouse may be able to post pics.
Hope that helps.

PS. Don't pay more than about £70+VAT for it. Dealers will try to sell you a complete unit (rather than just the sensor) for £250 plus.
Do a search on 'MAF part' to find the part number.

Thanks for the info and now youv'e described it I do know where it is. The guy I bought the car from was a mechanic and did say to me that he had just replaced the air flow meter ( I sumise thats what the MAF is ) at a cost of about £180. I've had the car 7 months, should it have gone so quickly? I also have a blitz sus mesh filter. Have I heard correctly that some of you lot have had problems with this set up? Cheers Blobster.

MAF's are known to go running standard airbox's on MY99/00!
Ran my V5 type r wit a Blitz SUS for 12 months with no probs until I blew the MAF. Fitted a Blitz LM afterwards and within 4 weeks blew the MAF again
The Blitz may look and sound good but the filtration is, IMHO, rubbish and will contaminate your MAF eventually. Now running standard airbox with a K&N, no probs so far
Part No: 22794AA0101 METER CP-AIR FLOW cost about £75.

I've got the air intake and the bottom part of the box so would just need the top.....I think. How much of the blitz induction would need to be removed? just the cone?
