Engine cutting out and 'check engine light' comes on...
#1
I have had this problem for a few months now on and off...
Mine is 05/2002 WRX with APEXi air filter and 3" exhaust.
Especially on wet days, I take off at the lights give it a bit of stick and she loses power quite abruptly. The check engine light then comes on.
This happens at about 4,000 revs +
I have had it checked out and the scooby mech. said it was fixed... drove it out of the mechs. and the same thing happens...
They put it on the computer and it gives an air flow meter problem...
If anyone knows... how can this be fixed? Should I put the standard air filter back on?
It also sometimes idles rough when I start it up during the day (wet days only!). Starting sometimes takes a couple of goes to get it going...
She has done 17,000kms and I have had the filter and exhaust on since 10,000kms.
Iam new to the posts and apologise if this has already been covered.
Cheers
Harry

Induction kits that replace the standard air filter box seem to break the mass air flow sensor, either from vibration ( poor mountings / unsupported ? ) or from oil contamination from the filter ( for the thin film MAFs anyway ? ).
It is possible the induction kit has slowly broken the MAF, I think uneven idle is also a sign of that problem.

Just had air flow meter done on mine. Found out by net research that air flow meters are delicate and the disturbance caused by changing such things as the air filter box can break them. Its a dear part though- £200.00 plus.
