What´s needed to make a frontentry TD05 to a TD05/TD06 hybrid.

AndyF will be able to tell you what you need.

AFAIK it's just the compressor wheel and cover, plus a rebalance.

Skassa I think it's best to buy a new turbo from ex. Andy F.
But if you can rebalance and machine it your self than it would be another thing.

Btw I saw one of the car/friend that you had built ? on Japmeet with a short block and a big nice turbo.

Tried to help him with a leaking radiator hose

Hi Skassa

The upgrade will require you to machine the centre turbo housing to accept the new compressor wheel, drill and tap the boost take off point on the compressor cover and refit, fabrication of a wastegate actuator mounting bracket and manufacture of a wastegate actuator linkage. Whilst you have it stripped you should have the casings crack tested and then replace the main bearings, thrusts and dynamic seal assemblys to ensure trouble free running.
The final assembly can also be balanced however as the individual components are all factory balanced, there are rarely any stacking up of tolerances that would require correction.
You may also consider machining the exhaust turbine to improve flow at higher rpm levels, fitting an exhaust 'splitter' and also porting of the turbine casing volute chamber and wastegate.

The 20G compressor is a very efficient unit and is factory matched to the TD06 cover so no additional machining is required there. This will make much more power at a lower boost pressure than the original 16G. The exhaust gas backpressure is also reduced which means it is less damaging to the engine and more power can be released for the same fuel input.
Spool up remains very 'brisk' and is best controlled by an aftermarket ECU, ECUTEK remap or an electronic boost controller.

cheers

Andy

The inlet of the end housing can fit the old TD05 inlet right inside, my friend then makes his own designed compressor wheels
