Other than the obvious cost of continual re-charging, aren't you worried about lowering the oxygen in the air at the air filter? I'm quite sure you'd need a good speed to get enough air flow to use this well on a scoob.

Otherwise ducting it away from the air filter would surely result in loosing air flow during normal driving through the intercooler.

Using compressed breathing air, although not quite as good cooling would have a simalar effect and is no doubt much cheeper to re-charge.

those co2 kits look like a good idea for top mounted intercoolers.

16x5", bet thats too big though?, will check.

The 'everything else kit' is expensive though, circa £200, surely any universal hose supplier could do braided hose for that application, and co2 bottles can't be hard to track down.

Breathing oxygen?, surely thats nowhere near cold enough?. The co2 kits look like it comes out almost freezing?... Interesting mishter Bond

RB5, I see what you are saying about CO2 getting sucked into the air filter, not sure how youd get round that one, or if it would even be significant enough to cause a problem.
I think its gotta be a gas compressed to liquid to have the freezing effect when its released. I know you can get compressed liquid CO2, or N2, but Can you get compressed liquid breathing air?

Im with you james, cant be that hard to rig a system up

i have been looking into this idea for a bit now...

I am going to construct a heat shield to go round the induction kit to shelter it from "heat soak", but this would also act as a guard against the co2 been dragged back into the air intake. Also, keep the original air resonator, as this is always feeding fresh air from the front of the car.

I am currently using a small fire extinguisher as my supply of co2 (had thought about halon as it's even colder, but i don't know if it's still available??)

My only worry is damaging the intercooler as they are not designed to transfer heat quite so quickly, remember that co2 will be at least -20 degree centigrage when it comes out of the cylinder.

Once i have done a bit more development work and made some prototype parts i will put some images on scooby net.

From memory Halon was banned as were all Halon extinguishers as it was damaging to the enviroment and was poisonous when extinguishing fire (go figure )

Did a bit of work on this a whilst back and compressed breathing air was as good as anything due to the gas being particularly cold under pressure BTW wasn`t researchng it for the TMIC it was to be used with a FMIC.

Good news,

My "stage 1" prototype co2 i/c spray is now running.

Didn't get chance to use it yesterday on the strip as i ran out of co2, used too much when i have been testing it..

The car does feel much "fresher" when i use it. Reminds me of when you drive your scooby on a cold, foggy winters morning.

I will post some piccies of my unit up when i get chance.

Used a CO2 (hand held) on my AVO top mount just before drag racing... was worth 0.1 sec's... so not a bad idea.... Have to balance the added weight of CO2 bottle/lines in the car tho !

This is my inaugural post and I am no expert on the subject but here goes…

I think the vapour on the Skyline is nitrous oxide. The supply lines for the nitrous are purged close to the engine before racing. When stood the nitrous in the lines slowly reverts to its gas state and the initial ‘hit’ is not as it should be. Purging the system cures this and ensures optimum performance. It also looks very menacing, can you imagine the look on your victims face at the traffic light grand prix …

We think alike (only I haven’t got round to trying anything yet !). One idea that crossed my mind was to use a charge cooler style intercooler. Use the air part of the cooler as normal and run the gas through the water part. This way the usage of the gas should be very efficient and it can be vented away safely under or out of the back of the car. If your serious about trying, some of Escort cosies had this style of cooler, perhaps one of these could be picked up cheaply due to an upgrade to the RS500 item.

I will be running my co2 cooler @ USC in a few weeks time, i'll let you know how i get on.

I'm still after an sti 5 tmic to help reduce the temp even further to produce even dencer air. (more power)

any pic's of the system your running yet? I would love to see it as I am considering this as an alternitive to a water spray

if you havent got pic would like some info on the different parts eg pressure regulators activation solinoids etc

how much does it cot you to refill with CO2

P.S. there is a guy on here some where that buys STi TMICs and has them modded for the earlier cars (not sure if thats what you have)think his name is expresspeed (not a recomendation just seen some pics etc)

Nitrous Express do a Ntercooler System - www.nitrousexpress.com (2f2f style!)

I'm not sure what gas/liquid it uses to do it though.
