my friend owns a SUBARU WRX and that is where i've gotten this tip from.....this mod is supposedly something people are doing in turbos to up the HP somewhere between 5-20.
Basically he told me to install a 4700 ohm resistor with a 5% tolerance(bands:yellow,purple,red,gold) into the engine coolant temp sensor....one end of the resistor into one plug and the other into the the other plug....and it works for him.....he said it basically fools the ecu into thinking that the air in the engine is cold and it then adjusts its timing...
would this work on saabs???
if so where is the enginge temp sensor???

any thoughts?

The exact reason varies from car to car. However, the fundamental reason is that it won't do what it claims (i.e. fool the engine into thinking the inlet air's cooler, thus making it alter the fuelling).

No modern cars use the coolant temperature sensors to calculate the inlet air temp and density, they'll use more direct methods, such as mass airflow sensors, inlet air temp sensors and so-on.

All this "mod" will do on an Impreza is make the engine run slightly hotter, by preventing the ECU seeing the correct temp, and thus stopping it switching the fan on at the correct times. Obviously enough, this is not a good thing...
