Has anybody fitted an uppipe to a classic? I have a UK MY2000 and am considering this. What are the benefits please?

Yup, done.
Minimal improvements, unless it's along with a new manifold, turbo, etc. Could actually be considered to make things worse, as typically the bore will be larger, so the flow slower, hence spool-up later.
Also an utter utter $%&"$%^& of a job, unless the turbo happens to be out anyway.
